We have begun the 2008 leatherback research season here on the beaches of northern Palm Beach County! This year we should be able to completely survey the whole stretch of beach between the Lake Worth Inlet and the Jupiter Inlet. You can view the area here at Google maps
Already this season, we have encountered twenty nesting leatherback's. Many of the turtles we have found were new to this beach, but about half of them are our old friends. Two of the turtles have been nesting regularly every other season since we started the project in 2001.
The team this season consists of Katharine Garrido, Sara Bergeron, Niki Desjardin, Maria Merrill, Sandy Fournies and me (Chris) We will start updating this blog regularly from now on. So stay tuned!
