Here in Florida, we are waiting to see how Tropical Storm Erika will affect the beaches along the coastline. Most of the leatherback nests laid this season have hatched already but there are many Green Turtle and Loggerhead nests still incubating in the sand. This weekend the forecast calls for higher than average tides and possible tropical storm force winds which may over wash much of the beach and even destroy nests by removing sand and eggs. If you are in Florida or the southeast US, please keep an eye on the storm.
Katia continues to meander north and south off the coast of Virgina, USA. She is currently located about 80 kilometers northeast of Virgina Beach.
